Photog Who Snapped Scalia 'Obscene Gesture' Picture Cut Loose by Diocese The photographer who took the now-famous photograph of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia allegedly making an "obscene gesture" after attending mass in Boston on Sunday has been told he will no longer do any work for the Archdiocese of Boston’s newspaper. Scalia had asked the freelance photographer, Peter Smith, not to publish the photo. Instead, he gave it to the Boston Herald, which put it on its front page on Thursday. The weekly Catholic newspaper made a “journalistic decision” not to run or release the photo, Archdiocese spokesman Terry Donilon told the Herald. “Because he breached that trust with the editor, we will no longer engage his services as a freelance photographer,” Donilon said. The Archdiocese protecting Scalia - So, damn typical. At the Boston Archdiocese they're experts at protecting old sleazeballs!
