Santa Ana Winds Fan Sierra Fire

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif. -- Santa Ana winds with gusts up 50 mph and near-record temperatures heightened the danger of wildfires across the region on Tuesday, while nearly 1,000 firefighters worked to contain a blaze in Orange County.

On August 15, 1935, Wiley Post, the first pilot to fly solo around the world, and American humorist Will Rogers were killed when Post's plane crashed on takeoff from a lagoon near Point Barrow, in Alaska.
