Democrats and Republicans show little sympathy for Cunningham

I still don't believe in prison terms for non-violent criminals. Heavy fines, governmental work programs where some one like Duke Cunningham would be required to work with disadvantaged youths in San Diego, for instance, would be far more productive, and certainly a lot cheaper burden on society than sending a non-violent offender to prison for eight years. I guess that probably makes too much sense and doesn't seem punitive enough for most people in this country.
